A Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan is often referred to as a PEEP.
You will need a PEEP if you are disabled, have an injury, or health condition (whether temporary or permanent), which means that in the event of an emergency building evacuation you need assistance to safely evacuate a building or need more time to safely evacuate than might ordinarily be anticipated.
Examples of students who may need a PEEP are:
  • students with short-term or long-term injury
  • students who are pregnant
  • students with hearing impairment
  • students with visual impairment
  • students with underlying health conditions (e.g. heart condition or epilepsy)
  • students with mental health condition
  • students with a physical disability

The PEEP will outline the best evacuation method and the assistance required for you to exit the building safely. This could involve the use of a deaf alerter, an evacuation chair, physical and/or emotional support from a buddy or tutor.

The plan is led and devised by you and your needs on any given day or particular situation. This could mean you requiring different levels of assistance regarding your condition being mild, severe and very severe on any given day.
